Musical instruments are grouped in families. The instruments of the orchestra are classed as strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion. Mechanised instruments like the piano and the organ are harder to classify so we often call them keyboard instruments. Note that the saxophone is a woodwind instrument because, although it is made of brass, it produces its sound with a reed much like the clarinet.
