Introduction

Most of the music we play is based on chords. Even the twin melodic lines of a two-part invention rest upon a foundation of implied harmonic progressions. It follows then that the better we recognise chords and harmonic progressions in the music we play, the more efficient our sight-reading will be. Our ability to see harmony on the page, and hear it in our minds, is in fact the truest measure of our fluency in the language of music.
