The Exercises of Peter Feuchtwanger

Exercise No. 6

Chord Parachute

Imagine a parachute as it deflates when landing on the ground. Starting from a high-wrist position, we allow the wrist and hand to collapse, holding onto each key as long as possible and ending with flat fingers and collapsed knuckles, the arm and hand hanging freely from the keyboard. I show the exercise using a dominant 7th in the key of F, but apply to any dominant, diminished or other chord involving all five fingers, in root position and inversions. The thumb takes the note the 4th finger would play in the chord.
