Making the Jump to Advanced Arpeggios

16 Mar 2024 @ 14:00 GMT

Saturday 16th March (16:00 - 17:30 GMT)

Multiple octave arpeggios are an essential component of advanced piano technique. Mastering them expands your technical foundation, enabling greater fluency and coordination in all movements. In this online workshop, Fred Karpoff demonstrates a step-by-step approach for cultivating well-coordinated, fast, two-octave arpeggios.

The session will start with an analysis of common problems and will then demonstrate elements such as alignment, three-dimensional motion in a one-octave arpeggio, the throw, combining the throw with three-dimensional shaping, released fingers and utilising momentum effectively.

The workshop is suitable for pianists from late elementary and intermediate levels upwards and will also be of significant interest to teachers. Illustrations will feature repertoire examples from intermediate through to advanced works by Burgmuller, Czerny, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy.

How it works

Participants will have the opportunity to try out each of the concepts presented at their keyboards in break-out sessions and gain feedback from Fred (this is entirely optional!). The workshop will also be recorded and worksheets with various exercises and repertoire examples will be sent to you in advance of the event.

These workshops are being recorded in our studios and all ticket holders will receive a link to view high-definition recordings after each of them. Therefore, if you are unable to join us live or missed some of the events, you will still be able to watch the workshop recordings and access the resources at your convenience.
