Fantasie-Impromptu in C-Sharp Minor (Op. 66)

Walkthrough (2)

Using the Arm to Assist the Fingers (RH from bar 14)

At bar 14, there is a change of texture and a broad melody in the thumb. We explore free forearm rotations, which we can exaggerate during slow practice. I suggest an exercise to really sense the rotations on each pair of notes. Next, I look at circular motions, and drop-release motions that enable us to use arm weight with a gradual release through each note group. Practising in a variety of different ways tens to allow a blended activity as each person synchronises them differently.
