Part 2 - Polishing Your Piece

Now that you’ve learnt your piece, how do you move beyond simply "playing the notes" to create a performance that feels fluent, expressive and confident? How do we maintain that level of ease under pressure and keep our playing fresh, reliable and alive?

In this follow-on to his October workshop, Graham Fitch explores a range of tools and strategies designed to help you transform well-learned pieces into polished performances.

Drawing on examples from across the repertoire, you’ll learn how to:

  • Build confidence and security using Q-spot practice, tracking and variable starting points.
  • Develop a beautiful, layered sound by balancing the hands and projecting melodies with miming.
  • Strengthen focus and stamina through performance play-throughs and visualisation, developing concentration and stage confidence.
  • Maintain long-term fluency through maintenance practice routines that keep pieces in peak condition.

Whether you’re preparing for an exam, performance, or simply polishing a favourite work, this session will show you how to move from fluency to finesse - playing with artistry, assurance and joy.

This workshop is part of our Learn a New Piece with Graham Fitch course, but you can also join it as a standalone session. All participants will receive access to the workshop recording, resources, and repertoire examples, making it a lasting reference for your practising.

Missed Part 1?

The first workshop in this series took place October and explored tools for tackling each of the challenges encountered in the early stages of learning a piece. If you missed it, you can still purchase access to the recording and resources here.
