With polyrhythms, we subdivide the beat in two different ways at the same time (2 against 3, 3 against 4, etc.). As with all other rhythmic figures, we must first be able to play polyrhythms before we can read them at sight. Pianists playing advanced repertoire will have probably already mastered at least the most common polyrhythms (2 against 3, and perhaps 3 against 4) and should have little difficulty with most of the rhythmic issues in this module, though they may find challenges of other kinds (complex harmonic language, advanced pianistic textures, etc.).
